Martin Lewis' MSE warns 'don't' ahead of Amazon Prime Day

Amazon is about to slash prices on thousands of items, but shoppers are being warned

Amazon's eagerly-anticipated Prime Big Deals Day event is about to begin, with deals available from 00.01am on Tuesday until 11.59pm on Wednesday. The promotion will follow the the same format as previous sales, with discounts across a huge selection of products and ranges.

While the billion-pound company is keeping most details about the sale to itself, Martin Lewis' Money Saving Expert has shared a few "promises and teasers". MSE added: "Amazon will 'offer its lowest prices of the year so far on selected products from Barbie, Stanley, and Silentnight'.

"So, if you're after a product from any of those brands, it could be worth checking deals during this promotion. It says it'll also have 'deals from Sony, Bose, Shark, Tefal, and LG' and it's indicated it'll also have discounts on selected products from Ghd, Crocs, Oral-B, Philips/Hue, Bosch, Logitech, Braun, and Swarovski."

However, MSE experts have also issued a warning to all shoppers, as people are urged: "Don’t allow yourself to be taken in by the hype and sucked into buying something you don’t need or can’t afford. Always do your own price comparisons to ensure you're getting the best deal possible."

The advice echoes a warning made previously by Martin Lewis around the Black Friday sales, which take place in November. At the time Mr Lewis said: "If you were going to buy it anyway, and it's half price, you've saved 50%. If you weren't going to buy it, but do it because its half price, it's cost you 100%. So be careful."

MSE also advises people to use a price tracker to "see if it's actually a deal at all". As Amazon prices can fluctuate, MSE suggests urging free online tool CamelCamelCamel, which can check any Amazon item's price history.
