Expert estimates Metro Vancouver gas prices to jump by 5 cents overnight

by · CityNews

In another hit to Metro Vancouver drivers, one expert says gas prices in the region are set to jump significantly, once again, overnight.

Roger McKnight, chief petroleum analyst at EnPro, tells 1130 NewsRadio that Tuesday is the day to fill a tank — even with stations advertising a range between $2.15 and $2.25 per litre.

EnPro says prices are set to rise by five cents per litre in the Metro Vancouver area after midnight.

McKinght says his estimations are based on wholesale price changes, and final changes are up to the individual retailer.

“But I guarantee they aren’t going down,” said McKnight.

Gas prices have been increasing around the globe since the onset of the U.S. and Israel’s attacks on Iran and disruptions to traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, curtailing the flow of millions of barrels of crude each day.

According to GasBuddy.com, the average price per litre of gas in Metro Vancouver rose by nearly a nickel in the last week, but it was a considerably small jump compared with the rest of the country.

On Sunday, the average price per litre of gas was over 50 cents higher than the year before.

For Wednesday morning, EnPro says Metro Vancouver won’t be alone, with prices set to jump by at least five cents per litre in Montreal and Toronto, and nearly six cents per litre in Halifax.

1130 NewsRadio has reached out for more information on the exact causes of the overnight jump.
