BC Ferries cancels several Horseshoe Bay-Langdale sailings due to mechanical issue

by · CityNews

Many BC Ferries passengers have faced significant waits this Easter long weekend, and a mechanical issue on one of the vessels has caused further headaches Sunday.

The company says several sailings on the Horseshoe Bay to Langdale Route were cancelled Sunday morning due to a problem with the ship’s steering panel.

As of 11 a.m., four earlier had been cancelled:

7:30 a.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
8:40 a.m. departing Langdale
9:50 a.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
11:00 a.m. departing Langdale

BC Ferries says more sailings could be cancelled as crews investigate the issue.

Those sailings at risk of cancellation are:

12:10 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
1:15 p.m. departing Langdale
2:25 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
3:25 p.m. departing Langdale

This is on top of an already busy weekend. On Saturday, we reported that many waiting at Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal have had to deal with multiple-sailing waits this Easter long weekend.

Mechanical issues this week

The company had issues with two other vessels earlier this week. The Spirit of Vancouver Island was taken out of service temporarily Tuesday after experiencing issues with the starboard generator, but this issue has since been resolved.

On Thursday morning, president and CEO Nicolas Jimenez said the Queen of Surrey would also not be operational after “additional work” needed was identified during a refit. On Sunday morning, some sailings of that vessel were cancelled due to a technical issue, but BC Ferries’ website shows afternoon sailings as being scheduled as planned — although they may be selling out quickly.
