Nirmal 'Nims' Purja's tragic passing has left everyone heartbroken. The 43-year-old mountaineer faced a horrifying avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan, which occurred on July 30, 2026. Nirmal is survived by his wife, Suchi, and their daughter, Himani. Nirmal 'Nims' Purja's passion was something that made him someone who would shine in people's hearts.

Giving up was never in his blood, and he showed that when someone puts their heart into something, there's just no obstacle that could stop them from achieving their goal, even if the road is rocky. For Nirmal 'Nims' Purja, he fell in love with mountaineering back in 2012, and since then, he never looked back, but rather at the peaks and set foot there. When Nirmal 'Nims' Purja decided to leave his lucrative military job and opt for fulfilling his dream, his brother was against it. Nirmal's relationship with his brother was strained, and they didn't talk for three months.

The person who continuously backed Nims was his wife, Suchi. Nims and Suchi got married in 2006, and they have a daughter, Himani. In Netflix's 14 Peak: Nothing Is Impossible, which also captures a glimpse of their wedding, Suchi expressed her pride in her husband and said that her husband was constantly busy thinking and his 'brain didn't rest at all'. She mentioned that it was dangerous, but her husband was 'driven,' and she knew it would be life-changing for him. 

She shared, 'I understood the risk, but I think it was in his character '. In the documentary, Suchi further gave a glimpse of Nirmal's life and revealed that he would wake up around 2-3:00 in the morning, run 20 kilometres with 75 pounds on his back, work all day, then head to the gym, and reach home at 11 at night. Speaking about her husband, Suchi said:

'That's the first time I saw him working towards his goal and how crazy he is'.

In the same documentary, Suchi Purja revealed that her friends always ask her how she did all of these. To this, Suchi answered, 'If I'm constantly worried about him, then I'm not doing any good to me; I would break down'. Suchi said that she had to be strong, as she never wanted to divert him from his goals and dreams, and her husband always knew what he wanted to do in his life.

Suchi also mentioned witnessing the time when he was asking for money to fund his mission. She revealed that her husband almost sounded like a 'lunatic' when he was approaching sponsors. In the same documentary, Suchi said that she always believed in her husband and knew that he never would give up.

Speaking about the stress she had to go through, Suchi said, 'I had so many grey hairs because of the stress I was going through'. While Project Possible was a 'roller coaster ride', as per Suchi, she was extremely proud of her husband, Nims Dai.
