Full List: Family Rift Deepens As Alao-Akala’s Estate Battle Exposes Properties Across Nigeria
by George Oshogwe Ogbolu · Naija NewsA legal battle over the estate of former Oyo State Governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala, has exposed an extensive portfolio of properties owned by the late politician across Nigeria and abroad.
The dispute is currently before an Oyo State High Court, where his first daughter, Oluwatoyin Alao Aderinto, is contesting the administration of the estate.
In a suit marked I/443/2024, she is seeking judicial intervention over alleged irregularities in how her father’s assets are being managed.
Named as defendants are Oluwakemi Alao-Akala and Olamide Alabi, identified as executors and administrators of the estate.
Aderinto told the court that she has both legal and equitable interests in the estate as the first daughter of the deceased.
She alleged that: Some properties have already been sold without her knowledge; Plans are underway to dispose of more assets; Certain properties are being considered for joint venture arrangements.
She warned that without urgent court intervention, further transactions could lead to irreversible losses.
The claimant is seeking an injunction to stop any further sale or transfer of assets pending the determination of the case.
According to her, failure to restrain the executors could jeopardise her rightful share in the estate.
Documents presented before the court revealed that the late politician owned a vast network of assets, including:
Properties in Lagos, Abuja, and Ibadan; Real estate holdings in the United Kingdom and the United States; A five-star hotel in Ghana; Other high-value investments spread across multiple jurisdictions.
Since the death of Alao-Akala on January 12, 2022, in Ogbomoso at the age of 71, disputes have continued to trail the administration and sharing of his estate.
The ongoing court case is the latest development in what appears to be a prolonged family disagreement over inheritance and control of assets.
