Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC) has announced that electricity will be supplied to Yangon City on a rotational basis, with the city divided into two groups, Group A and Group B.

Under the new arrangement, electricity will be supplied on a four-hour rotation, although the duration may be adjusted depending on power generation capacity and the overall condition of the electricity grid.

In Yangon Region, eastern, western, southern and northern areas will receive electricity on a rotational basis during daytime hours, while electricity will be supplied without load shedding at night. Industrial zones, businesses in the Myaungtagar Industrial Zone that obtain electricity generated from LNG, and essential government departments will receive electricity around the clock, according to YESC.

The Ministry of Electricity and Energy announced that the rotational electricity supply system would take effect from October 5.

The ministry said that the monsoon had withdrawn and the rainy season had ended, with the country entering the dry season. In addition, temperatures have risen significantly due to the effects of the severe El Niño weather phenomenon, resulting in increased electricity consumption and higher demand for power.

During this period, the ministry said load management and rotational power distribution would be carried out at the minimum possible level to balance electricity consumption with available power generation capacity.
