Due to heavy rain, the Thaung Yin (Moei) River overflowed into downtown Myawaddy Township in Kayin State for the second time, causing severe flooding.

Residents in low-lying areas, whose homes were completely submerged, are still struggling to recover and rebuild their lives.

Yesterday, the Myawaddy Foundation and local well-wishers provided aid, including rice, edible oil, dried noodles, purified drinking water, and blankets, to over 400 households in the affected low-lying areas, such as Thayet Pin Gate in Ward 5 and Ward 2.

The relief efforts were organized to ensure that the assistance reached those most in need.

A member of the Myawaddy Foundation’s social assistance group confirmed that donations were distributed to 400 families in the low-lying areas of Thayet Pin Gate.

“My house was swept away during the second flood. We escaped with nothing but the clothes on our backs. We are now staying with others out of their kindness. I work daily labor jobs just to feed my family. With the current prices, even rebuilding a bamboo house is difficult,” shared a distressed resident whose house was destroyed for the second time.

Despite the hardships, the resident expressed deep gratitude to the charitable organizations and donors who have come forward to offer support during this challenging time.

The severe flooding in Myawaddy has caused widespread damage, with all of Ward 5 submerged.

Many homes, household items, and businesses were lost, and several houses in low-lying areas were washed away by the floodwaters.
