Digger’s Grave Is Dug
by Bethy Squires · VULTUREAudience didn’t dig Digger. The film debuted with $8 million domestic at the box office, against a reported budget of $125 million. It’s the latest blow for the now-deposed Warner Bros. heads Pam Abdy and Mike DeLuca, who shepherded Digger, Supergirl, and The Bride! this year, to disappointing results.
Topping the box office this week was Colleen Hoover and Michael Showalter’s Verity. The campy erotic thriller brought in $32.6 million in North America. To put that number in CoHo context, that’s less than It Ends With Us ($50 mil), but more than Regretting You ($13.6 mil) and Reminders of Him ($17.9 mil). In second place was Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil with $12.5 million. The film has broken $100 mil domestically. Brad Pitt-with-a-dog movie Heart of the Beast brought in $11 million in its second week, with Primetime at number 4 with $8 million. But a bigger $8 million than Digger, apparently.
