Rachel Zegler’s Evita Is Officially Coming to Broadway

by · VULTURE

To quote Eva Perón in Evita’s “Rainbow High,” let’s get this show on the road. The Jamie Lloyd–directed Evita is officially coming to Broadway with Rachel Zegler reprising her role as Eva. This production debuted in 2025 at the London Palladium, where it was a breakout success, winning Zegler the Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Now, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s show is scheduled to come to New York next spring in a Schubert-owned theater that has yet to be determined. Good money is on the Winter Garden, which will be open after Death of a Salesman closes in August and which has housed multiple productions with music by Lloyd Webber, including the original run of Cats. (The Broadway Theatre, where Evita originally ran, is still housing The Great Gatsby.)

Beyond the return of Lloyd and Zegler, not much has been confirmed about the production, including the rest of the cast and the creative team. But there is one confirmed difference: In London, Lloyd directed Zegler to sing “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” off the theater balcony to any passersby, but the stunt won’t be replicated in New York. “When we started discussing a New York production, it became apparent that our Palladium staging of ‘Don’t Cry for Me Argentina’ would not be possible,” Lloyd confirmed in a statement. “I am really excited to explore a new idea made especially for Broadway.” Maybe Zegler’s performance will be livestreamed to the Times Square LED billboards every night.
