HBO Is Supporting American Theater (Filmed in Britain)

Hello, I’m Blythe Danner. I’m thrilled to announce that Cole Escola’s beloved American play Oh, Mary! will be coming to HBO in 2027. The proshot of the play was filed on July 28 at the Trafalgar Theatre on London’s West End, where it is currently running. That taped performance featured original play director Sam Pinkleton with a cast including Escola, reprising their Tony-winning performance as Mary Todd Lincoln, and their fellow original cast members Tony Macht as Mary’s Husband’s Assistant and Bianca Leigh as Mary’s Chaperone. They’re joined by Michael Urie, reprising his role as Mary’s Teacher, and Olivier winner Giles Terera as Mary’s Husband. “I’m so happy to share this show with a wider audience and spread Oh, Mary! awareness,” Escola said in a statement. “Knowing about Oh, Mary! is the first step in getting rid of it.”

As Mary Todd enters the HBO family, Escola also filmed a promotional video with two iconic members of the HBO roster: Sex and the City and And Just Like That … stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon. In it, Mary Todd arrives at the HBO offices and requests to do her play, so Parker points her in the right direction. As Mary Todd harrumphs her way along the hallway, Parker turns to Nixon and deadpans: “That’ll be nice to have around.” I couldn’t help but wonder … when exactly in 2027 will this proshot be coming out?
