I contested in the 2023 flagbearership race to prove a point—Addai Nimoh

Former Member of Parliament for Mampong in the Ashanti Region, Ing. Francis Addai Nimoh, has explained the reason behind contesting the 2023 flagbearership race.

According to him, he wanted to prove a point to the political party that even though he was sidelined by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government, he was still loved by the party’s grassroots.

“I was part of the last five who contested. I wanted to prove a point that even if I wasn’t part of Akufo-Addo’s government, I was loved by the people in the party and I achieved that. I came 5th and was in a tie with Boakye Agyarko who later decided not to contest again,” he said.

He revealed further that he was called by Hackman Owusu Agyemang to step down from the race.

“Hackman Owusu Agyemang called me on the phone to tell me to step down and that if I don’t listen to him, he will tell Bawumia to treat me the way Akufo-Addo treated me. He told me directly,” he said.

Addai Nimoh said he knew the outcome of the election was predetermined and so he did not bother campaigning.

“I didn’t go to campaign in any constituency. All those who voted for me were people who love me and have voted for me in the past. I knew that everything from the super delegates was predetermined and so I didn’t want to bother myself,” he stated on Accra-based Neat FM.
