Newcastle venue enters voluntary administration after $1m revamp
by Lisa Rockman · Newcastle HeraldGallipoli House at Hamilton has gone into voluntary administration.
The Newcastle Herald can reveal that The Gallipoli Legion Club Newcastle Ltd's board of directors passed a resolution on Wednesday that it believed the company was insolvent or likely to be insolvent in the near future.
The board appointed administrators Daniel Jon Quinn and Hugh Armenis from insolvency and business turnaround specialist firm SV Partners.
The Herald has reached out to the administrators for comment.
On October 29 the Herald reported that Newcastle event organiser Powder Your Nose had been left scrambling to find a venue three days out from Halloween after being told Gallipoli House was closing its doors permanently.
Powder Your Nose, an all-female DJ collective, had planned to host their fifth annual Halloween event HallowQueen at Gallipoli House on October 31.
Ella Griffiths, co-founder of Powder Your Nose, said she had "caught wind" of an event allegedly being cancelled at Gallipoli House at short notice last week.
Concerned, she reached out to her contacts at the club.
"They were completely in the dark as well," Ms Griffiths said.
She said a work colleague had also told her Gallipoli House was closing.
The Newcastle Herald reported in April 2025 that Gallipoli Legion Club, nicknamed The Gal, was facing closure due to "dwindling numbers, money troubles, competition on Beaumont Street" and what then venue operations and accounts manager Jared Ford described as a "massive COVID hangover".
Gallipoli Legion Club sold at auction for $2.23 million in July 2025 to "a group of business owners who operate restaurants in Hamilton," selling agent George Rafty said at the time.
In April of this year, Gallipoli Legion Club reopened as Gallipoli House following a $1 million renovation.
Attempts to contact Mr Ford and Gallipoli House by email and phone have been unsuccessful.
