The funds were raised for her cancer treatment.

However, the announcement was met with widespread skepticism, with many accusing her of using the diagnosis as a pretext to solicit money.

On Thursday, Blessing explained that she had sought public support early as a financial precaution, even before knowing the exact cost of the procedure.
She also disclosed that her surgery had been postponed due to the online controversy, and that additional medical tests and post-operative care would further increase her expenses.
Raising funds early, she said, was a way to avoid asking for help later when her condition might become more critical.

In a now-viral video, Blessing defended her position, stating that she cannot publicly share her cancer test results due to privacy rules.
She argued that most of her critics would not be able to interpret the medical information even if she did post it.
The influencer emphasised that no one was forced to donate. She further claimed that her history of philanthropy gives her the right to request funds from the public.
“If I show you the result, can you interpret it? Show me one cancer patient who came to the internet to show their results. Because I came out and said lovers help me,” she said.

“Most of you who are making noise did not bring one kobo. If VDM wants to collect his money, that means it’s installment then him go wait make I sell. He would wait for me to sell my hair or sell my clothes.
“A lot of people who are commenting are ignorant about cancer. The people who understand are people who have gone through it. Many of you don’t understand privacy. If you do not trust me, do not give me your money.
“If you do not want to give, keep your money. I do not put a gun to your head to give me your one naira. I have paid my dues on social media.”
