Park Bo Young is raising anticipation for her upcoming project by sharing her experience taking on her first crime genre role, along with a striking character transformation that includes weight loss and going without makeup. At the same time, ‘Gold Land’ is already drawing strong attention ahead of its release for the cast’s intense acting transformations.

On the morning of the 27th, a production presentation for the Disney+ original series ‘Gold Land’ was held at the Grand Ballroom on the third floor of the Conrad Seoul in Yeongdeungpo District, Seoul. The event was attended by Park Bo Young, Kim Sung Cheol, Lee Hyun Wook, Kim Hee Won, Moon Jung Hee, Lee Kwang Soo, and director Kim Sung Hoon.

Speaking about her decision to take on her first crime genre role, Park Bo Young said, “I wanted to challenge myself in terms of genre. When I met with the director, I thought that since I have an image people might expect to turn down such roles, choosing something different could evoke new emotions for viewers. That was what drew me the most.”

She also revealed the physical transformation she underwent for the role. “The director suggested that I lose weight, as the character isn’t someone who grew up happily. There are also many scenes where she runs away with gold, so I kept losing weight throughout filming. He also preferred no makeup, so I gradually reduced it and eventually leaned toward going completely bare-faced,” she explained.

Kim Sung Cheol teased strong sibling chemistry with Park Bo Young in the series. “I say ‘noona’ a lot in the drama, and even while rehearsing lines, I called her that,” he shared. Park Bo Young added with a laugh, “I’ve never been called ‘noona’ this much in my life. It felt like I actually had a younger brother.

‘Gold Land’ is a “gold-driven survival thriller” that follows Hee Joo (Park Bo Young), who comes into possession of gold bars worth 150 billion won ($112 million USD) from a smuggling ring and fights to claim them amid a chaotic web of greed and betrayal. The series premieres on the 29th.
