Travis Kelce Spent the Days Before Marrying Taylor Swift Fighting a Trademark Lawsuit Over the Name of His Steakhouse

In early July, days before marrying Taylor Swift at Madison Square Garden, Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes asked a federal judge to throw out a trademark lawsuit over the name of their Kansas City steakhouse, 1587 Prime.
The suit was filed in February by 1587 Sneakers, a New York brand that has used the name since 2023 and says 1587 marks the first documented year Asians landed in America. Kelce and Mahomes named the steakhouse after their jersey numbers: Mahomes wears 15, Kelce wears 87.
Travis Kelce married Taylor Swift at Madison Square Garden on July 3. In the days right before that, his legal team was in a different New York fight: a federal trademark suit over the name of the Kansas City steakhouse he owns with Patrick Mahomes, 1587 Prime.
Kelce and Mahomes named the restaurant after their jersey numbers. Mahomes wears 15. Kelce wears 87.
1587 Sneakers, Inc., a New York company that has sold shoes and apparel under the name since 2023, says it got there first. Its brand is built around Asian-American culture, and the company says 1587 marks the first documented year Asians landed in America.
The sneaker company sued Kelce, Mahomes, and their restaurant business on February 17, 2026, in the Southern District of New York, alleging the steakhouse’s use of 1587 is likely to confuse consumers. Those claims are contested, and the court has not ruled on them.
In March, the judge declined the company’s request for emergency relief, partly over questions about jurisdiction and venue. Around July 2 and 3, the same days as Kelce’s rehearsal dinner and wedding, his side filed a motion to dismiss arguing New York is the wrong place for the case because he, Mahomes, and the restaurant operate out of the Kansas City area.
The case is still pending. No ruling has been made on the infringement claims or on where the fight belongs.
