Rockstar’s 'GTA VI' has reportedly generated more than $750 million USD in digital pre-orders weeks before launch
Analytics firm Sensor Tower estimates PS5 players account for 74% of pre-orders, far ahead of Xbox Series X|S
The estimate is already closing in on GTA V’s record first-day sales, though the two figures aren’t a direct comparison
Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto VI is reportedly tracking toward one of the biggest launches in gaming history before a single copy has been unlocked. New estimates from analytics firm Sensor Tower suggest the sequel has already brought in roughly $751 million USD from digital pre-orders across PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with launch still weeks away.
Sensor Tower’s tracking puts the game at around 7.71 million digital pre-orders so far. Momentum appears to be building as release approaches, as the firm estimates that more than $100 million USD of that pre-order revenue came in during the past two weeks alone.
The platform split heavily favors Sony. By Sensor Tower’s count, PlayStation accounts for 74% of pre-orders, or roughly 5.74 million copies worth an estimated $559 million USD. Xbox Series X|S makes up the remaining 26%, with about 1.97 million copies bringing in an estimated $192 million USD.
The natural benchmark is GTA V, which set a record when it launched in September 2013. Take-Two Interactive’s official figures showed the game passing $800 million USD in worldwide sales within its first 24 hours and crossing $1 billion USD in three days. On paper, GTA VI’s pre-order haul is already approaching that first-day mark before launch day has even arrived.
The comparison has limits, though, and the caveats matter. Sensor Tower’s numbers are third-party estimates, not sales data confirmed by Rockstar or Take-Two. They also count only digital pre-orders, so physical copies, often a large share of a blockbuster launch, aren’t included. GTA V’s record, by contrast, reflected actual sales after release, which makes the two figures different kinds of measurement.
GTA VI launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with preloading set to open on November 10.
