Veteran director Mike Wilkins’ advice for boards

It’s an industry with disaster response at its core. So it’s fitting Mike Wilkins had to put out a few fires during his decade in QBE Insurance’s boardroom.
Wilkins, winner of the Alvarez & Marsal Award at the Financial Review BOSS Director Awards, has just ended a six-year stint in the chair at QBE, drawing the curtain on an almost 30-year career in insurance. Before becoming a director, he was the chief executive of Insurance Australia Group and before that Promina Group, before it was sold to Suncorp.
