Northern Star’s CEO faces activist siege as he tries to restore shine

Suresh Vadnagra’s to-do list is growing by the day. The incoming chief executive of Northern Star Resources will want to hand-pick his new leadership team, lift the gold miner’s underperforming operations, and win back investors who have been burnt by a series of downgrades.
There is also the question of how Vadnagra and the board will deal with one of the world’s most prominent activist hedge funds, Elliott Investment Management, which is beating the drum for a major overhaul of the Australia’s largest listed gold miner, including the possible sale of the company.
