Bolt introduces multi-stop rides & 25% discounts for Malaysians
As fuel prices and the overall cost of living continue to rise in Malaysia, ride-hailing platform Bolt is rolling out a series of initiatives aimed at easing the burden on daily commuters. The latest measures focus on lowering ride costs while improving flexibility, as more Malaysians look for affordable alternatives to private car usage.
Discounts and Shared Rides Take Priority
At the core of the update are ride discounts of up to 25%, alongside a stronger push for Bolt’s multi-stop ride feature. This function allows passengers to include up to three drop-off points within a single journey, making it easier for multiple riders heading in similar directions to share a trip and split the cost.
According to Bolt, users can save up to 35% per journey through this feature, depending on factors such as distance, timing, and the number of stops. Platform data indicates that two-stop trips are currently the most common setup, suggesting that shared commuting is steadily gaining traction among local users.
Bolt attributes its ability to offer these savings to its efficiency-focused operating model, which has been in place since the company’s founding. By optimising operational costs, the platform is able to pass on savings not only to passengers but also to driver partners.
Afzan Lutfi, General Manager of Bolt Malaysia, noted that rising fuel costs are reshaping how people move around cities, and that the company is focused on delivering practical, everyday solutions that help users better manage transportation expenses.
More Drivers and Better Trip Planning
Beyond pricing, Bolt is also working to improve the overall commuting experience. The platform has increased driver availability during peak hours in an effort to reduce waiting times and minimise the impact of surge pricing.
In addition, its ride scheduling feature allows users to plan trips in advance, giving commuters more control over both timing and cost. This added layer of predictability could appeal to users who rely on ride-hailing for daily travel, especially during busy periods.
A Shift Away From Private Car Dependence
With transport costs on the rise, Bolt’s latest push reflects a broader shift toward shared mobility solutions in Malaysia. By combining discounts, ride-sharing features, and improved service reliability, the platform is positioning itself as a more cost-effective alternative to private car ownership in an increasingly expensive urban environment.
