Jio Platforms IPO applicants have been busy checking allotment status, counting their luck and, in some cases, making memes out of disappointment.
The reactions on X came ahead of the October 28 listing, as successful allottees eye potential gains of nearly 22% based on the latest grey market premium.
The allotment news brought out the full range of emotions online. While some investors celebrated getting a slice of the much-talked-about IPO, those who missed out turned to memes to express their disappointment.
The reactions offered a familiar glimpse into the high-stakes lottery that IPO allotments can feel like, particularly when demand runs high.
But the real test lies ahead. The grey market premium points to the possibility of a strong listing, but it is an unofficial indicator, not a guarantee of returns. Investors will have to wait until the shares begin trading to see whether the market lives up to those expectations.
Check out the memes:
The Rs 30,188-crore IPO was open for subscription from October 21 to October 23 and attracted bids worth around Rs 7.4 lakh crore. The issue was fully subscribed within just 100 minutes, underlining the scale of investor interest.
Jio Platforms set the issue price at Rs 1,119 per share, at the upper end of the price band. The lot size was 12 shares, meaning one lot cost investors Rs 13,428.
At a GMP of nearly 22%, the implied listing price works out to roughly Rs 1,365 per share. That would mean a potential gain of around Rs 246 per share for successful allottees, or about Rs 2,952 on one lot, before charges and taxes. However, the actual listing price could be higher or lower.
