A 7-month-pregnant woman allegedly died by suicide after consuming poison in Uttar Pradesh with her family accusing her husband of harassment and assault.

The woman, identified as 30-year-old Saeba, was admitted to hospital in Saharanpur on the night of June 20 after allegedly consuming poison but died during treatment. She is survived by a 2-year-old son.

The victim’s family has accused her husband, Sharik, of harassment and assault, alleging that she had been subjected to domestic violence since her marriage around five years ago. They further claimed that her husband was involved with other women and that she was harassed when she objected.

According to the family, the household had been witnessing continuous disputes over the past three months. They also alleged that a police team had recently taken the woman back to her in-laws’ home. The deceased’s mother, Gulnaz, has demanded justice for her daughter.

Police said Saeba's body has been sent for postmortem and a panchanama has been conducted. ASP Manoj Yadav further said the family has been questioned and further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
