The Odyssey box office Day 7: Nolan epic overtakes Oppenheimer globally

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is on the verge of crossing the Rs 100 crore mark in India within its first week of release. The Matt Damon-led epic has not only stayed ahead of Nolan's previous blockbuster Oppenheimer at the same stage but is also making a strong run at the North American box office.

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is on the verge of crossing the coveted Rs 100 crore mark at the Indian box office, with the milestone expected within its first week of release. The Matt Damon-led epic continued its strong theatrical run despite the usual weekday slowdown, cementing its position as one of the biggest Hollywood successes in the country this year.

If it crosses the milestone, The Odyssey will become Christopher Nolan's second film after Oppenheimer to enter the Rs 100 crore club in India. It will also join the elite list of only 21 Hollywood films to have achieved the feat at the Indian box office.

As per trade website Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 6.15 crore on Day 7, which brought its total to Rs 90.30 crore.

Globally, The Odyssey continues to dominate at the North American box office. The film earned an impressive $18.05 million (approximately Rs 157 crore) on Wednesday, registering a modest 16 per cent decline from Tuesday's $21.4 million (around Rs 186 crore). The Day 6 collection marked Christopher Nolan's second-biggest Wednesday at the domestic box office, trailing only The Dark Knight, which earned $18.3 million (around Rs 159 crore) in 2008, while comfortably surpassing The Dark Knight Rises' $13.77 million (around Rs 120 crore). With this, The Odyssey's six-day domestic total has climbed to $181.6 million (approximately Rs 1,580 crore).

The film is also expected to post a strong second weekend, with industry estimates projecting collections between $61 million and $74 million (approximately Rs 531 crore to Rs 644 crore). If the estimates hold, it could surpass the second-weekend earnings of both The Dark Knight ($75.1 million / around Rs 653 crore) and The Dark Knight Rises ($62.1 million / around Rs 540 crore).

Compared to Nolan's previous blockbuster, Oppenheimer, The Odyssey continues to race ahead. Oppenheimer had earned $10.6 million (around Rs 92 crore) on its first Wednesday and stood at $117.8 million (approximately Rs 1,025 crore) after six days. In comparison, The Odyssey is running 54 per cent ahead of Oppenheimer at the same stage. Oppenheimer eventually concluded its North American run with $330 million (around Rs 2,871 crore).

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey follows Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, as he embarks on a dangerous and decade-long journey back home to reunite with his wife Penelope after the Trojan War. Based on Homer's legendary ancient Greek epic, the film features a star-studded ensemble cast including Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, John Leguizamo and Mia Goth.
