iPhone 17 at Rs 84900 in Flipkart sale: 2 reasons to buy it before price goes back to Rs 1 lakh

The iPhone 17 is getting a major discount during Flipkart's Big Billion Days sale, bringing its price down to Rs 84,999. Here are two reasons why buying it now could make sense before the price returns to Rs 99,900.

In Short

  • Flipkart will sell the 256GB iPhone 17 for Rs 84,999
  • That sale price is only Rs 2,099 above the launch tag
  • Rising memory costs could keep smartphone prices under pressure through 2027 and 2028

The iPhone 17 is getting a major price cut during Flipkart’s upcoming Big Billion Days sale, which starts on October 9. Apple’s latest standard iPhone, which currently costs Rs 99,900 in India, will be available for Rs 84,999 during the sale. That means shoppers will get the 256GB iPhone 17 for Rs 15,000 less than its current official price. The discount becomes even more interesting because Apple had originally launched the phone at Rs 82,900 before increasing its price in India.

There are two reasons why buyers considering the iPhone 17 may want to look at the current deal. Keep reading to find out.

iPhone 17 to become cheaper for limited time period

The first reason is straightforward. Flipkart’s sale price brings the iPhone 17 almost back to what it cost when it launched.

The phone was introduced in India at Rs 82,900, but its official price has since increased to Rs 99,900. Flipkart is now offering it for Rs 84,999, which is just Rs 2,099 above the original launch price. There are also additional offers. Eligible ICICI Bank and Axis Bank credit card transactions can get another Rs 2,000 discount, while buyers can receive a Rs 3,000 exchange bonus.

Flipkart therefore lists an effective price of Rs 79,999 when all these benefits are combined. The final amount, however, will depend on whether a buyer qualifies for the bank and exchange offers. The Big Billion Days sale starts on October 9, with early access for eligible Flipkart Plus, Black and credit card users from October 8.

The second reason is the wider smartphone market. Memory components have become more expensive, and manufacturers expect supply to remain tight for the next few years. This could keep smartphone costs under pressure, making the current discounted iPhone 17 deal worth considering before prices potentially rise again next year.

Micron CEO and chairman Sanjay Mehrotra said demand for memory is expected to remain higher than supply through 2027 and 2028. He also said the company has already sold most of the memory it expects to produce next year and warned that customers will pay “much higher prices” than this year.

Artificial intelligence is adding to the pressure. AI data centres require large amounts of high-bandwidth memory (HBM), and manufacturers are increasing production to meet that demand. Since HBM and conventional DRAM use the same wafer capacity, more HBM production can leave less capacity for memory used in smartphones and computers.

The impact is already visible in India. Counterpoint Research says average smartphone prices rose 16 per cent in the first half of 2026, with the average selling price reaching $318 in the second quarter.

This does not necessarily mean the iPhone 17 will immediately become more expensive after the Flipkart sale. However, continued memory-cost pressure could make future smartphone pricing less predictable. For someone already planning to buy the iPhone 17, the Rs 84,999 Flipkart price puts the phone close to its original launch price. Once the sale ends, the regular Rs 99,900 price could return.
