  • Subscribers can view last five transactions and get personalised PMVBRY guidance
  • Around one lakh accounts worth Rs 5 crore to benefit from automatic settlement

Checking your provident fund (PF) balance or accessing your passbook may soon become easier. The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has launched WhatsApp-based services that will allow subscribers to access key account details without having to visit an EPFO office.

Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched the new facility on Sunday during the organisation's 74th Foundation Day celebrations.

Through EPFO's verified WhatsApp service, subscribers can check their PF balance, view their latest five transactions and access passbook information. The service will also offer personalised guidance and assistance to employees completing requirements related to the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY).

The move is aimed at making routine services easier to access through a platform that millions of people already use, while reducing the need for physical visits to EPFO offices.

Subscribers can use EPFO's verified WhatsApp number to access the new services. They can also scan the QR code shared by the organisation to start a conversation.

In a post on X, EPFO announced the launch and said subscribers could check their PF balance, view their last five transactions and access their passbook by sending a WhatsApp message.

The facility is expected to make it easier for employees to keep track of their provident fund savings without having to log in to multiple platforms or visit an EPFO office for routine information.

Apart from account-related services, subscribers will also receive personalised guidance and assistance with requirements under PMVBRY.

EPFO TO AUTOMATICALLY SETTLE ELIGIBLE INACTIVE ACCOUNTS

Alongside the WhatsApp facility, Mandaviya also launched an automatic settlement facility for certain inoperative EPF accounts.

Under this arrangement, subscribers with Aadhaar-verified inoperative accounts and balances of up to Rs 1,000 will not have to file individual claims to receive their money.

EPFO will initiate the settlement process automatically after completing the prescribed identity and bank account verification.

Around one lakh such accounts, involving nearly Rs 5 crore, are expected to benefit from the facility. The move is aimed at helping eligible account holders receive their pending provident fund dues without going through the process of filing individual claims.

EPFO CLAIMS SETTLEMENT TIME FALLS TO 2.57 DAYS

The foundation day celebrations also highlighted the organisation's technology-led improvements through its CITES 2.01 platform.

EPFO said the average claim settlement time had fallen to 2.57 days in October 2026. The improvement reflects its efforts to make access to provident fund savings quicker and more convenient for subscribers.

With WhatsApp-based services and automatic settlement of eligible inactive accounts, EPFO is looking to simplify routine processes and make its services more accessible to members.
