Renault seeks NCLT nod for restructuring of operations in India
Renault Group has approached NCLT to restructure its India operations, separating powertrain and integrating manufacturing and sales, as part of a strategy to boost efficiency and strengthen India's export and growth role.
by Saumya Shubham Jha · India TodayRenault Group has moved the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) to seek approval for a proposed restructuring of its India operations, signalling a more focused approach to its business in the country.
The plan outlines a clearer separation of functions, with powertrain manufacturing to be housed under a dedicated entity, while vehicle manufacturing and sales will be consolidated into a single, integrated structure. The move is designed to better align operational frameworks with the differing technical and commercial demands of each vertical.
This structural reset forms part of Renault’s long-term strategy to sharpen its presence in India and elevate the country’s role within its global network. The company is positioning India as a key manufacturing and export hub, with a target to support exports worth up to €2 billion annually by 2030.
Importantly, Renault has emphasised that the proposed reorganisation will not disrupt ongoing operations. The company stated that there will be no impact on employees, customers, dealers, suppliers or partners. Employment terms, service continuity and existing business relationships will remain intact, with all commitments across manufacturing, supply chains and services continuing as usual.
The development comes at a time when Renault is recalibrating its India strategy following recent structural changes, including gaining full control of its Chennai-based manufacturing operations. The company is also preparing for a renewed product offensive, with a stronger focus on higher-value offerings and electrified powertrains.
With India increasingly central to its global ambitions, Renault’s latest move reflects a broader intent to build a more agile, export-driven and future-ready business in one of the world’s most competitive automotive markets.
