In Short

  • SBI ATM board remains outside a Danapur kiosk now used as a salon
  • The kiosk still looks like a functioning ATM from outside
  • Salon chairs and haircut tools replace ATM machines inside

In Bihar's Danapur area, an SBI ATM board still hangs outside a kiosk where people now get haircuts instead of withdrawing money.

The unusual setup from the Rupaspur area of Danapur has now gone viral online because, from the outside, the place still looks exactly like a functioning State Bank of India ATM. The familiar SBI branding, ATM board and kiosk structure remain untouched, giving passersby absolutely no reason to suspect that the cash machine inside has been replaced by grooming services.

But the moment people walk in expecting to check their balance or withdraw money, they are instead greeted by salon chairs, mirrors and haircut equipment.

According to local reports, the ATM operated for several years at Usha Villa before being vacated a few months ago. However, while the machine disappeared, the ATM identity apparently stayed behind. The vacant space was later rented out to a salon owner, creating what may be one of the most confusing “ATM experiences” in Bihar right now.

The internet, unsurprisingly, has had a field day with the story.

Several users joked that customers now go in for “cash withdrawal” and come out with a fade haircut instead. Others laughed about the possibility of people entering urgently to withdraw money only to accidentally book a shave.

The visual confusion has become the biggest talking point. Since the exterior still resembles a bank kiosk, people passing through the area reportedly continue mistaking it for a real ATM before realising midway that there are no withdrawal slips involved — only hair styling.

Many online users also pointed out how perfectly this captured a very Indian form of jugaad, where old commercial spaces evolve into entirely different businesses while keeping traces of their previous identity intact.

For now, the former ATM has become less of a banking point and more of a viral neighbourhood landmark, one where instead of asking for cash denominations, customers might simply be asked, “Haircut or beard trim?”
