We Indians wait every year for the launch of the new iPhones. Though most of us are not looking to buy the latest and greatest that Apple has to offer. Rather, we wait for the launch because Apple slashes prices of older iPhones with it. This year with the iPhone 18 Pro launch, however, Apple flipped the script. Instead of decreasing prices of older iPhones, it has raised them by as much as 20 per cent.
Today, if you want to buy a new iPhone, say the iPhone 17, the Apple website will charge you Rs 99,900. This is an increase of Rs 17,000 compared to the Rs 82,900 price tag of the iPhone 17 that was effective till the iPhone 18 Pro launch. As the headline of this article says, the best day to buy an iPhone was yesterday.
But not all is lost. If you are eager to grab an iPhone without having to shell out extra money for it, you need to act and you need to act fast. While the iPhone 18 Pro series goes on sale on September 18, with the iPhone Duo joining in October, there is only limited stock of older iPhones available in the market.
India Today Tech reached out to retailers in Delhi NCR to find out if older models, including the iPhone 17 Pro, were available to purchase today.
Old iPhone stock limited
A Reliance Digital staff member said that the billing of all iPhones was on hold following the price hike. The person asked us to contact them tomorrow to know about the stock of older models. At Croma, one staff member confirmed that they had no iPhone in stock available to purchase.
That is not to say that there are no iPhones available. One person at Vijay Sales claimed that we could buy the iPhone 17 Pro Max for Rs 1,72,900 – up from the Rs 1,49,900 launch price. When asked about the new price, the person said that its price had also been hiked.
Though some stores are still selling iPhones at older prices if they have the old stock. Authorised Apple resellers such as Imagine and iPlanet confirmed that we could buy the iPhone 17 Pro at its original Rs 1,34,900 launch price. Some even had the iPhone 17 available at the older Rs 82,900 price.
But as mentioned earlier, the older prices are only available as long as stocks last. Retailers who did have the iPhone 17 in stock confirmed that prices will increase when they receive new stocks.
In case you want to buy the iPhone 16, you would need to pay Rs 89,900. However, in calls with retailers, we could not find it in stock at least at the moment.
