Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani appeared tearful at the Jio Platforms IPO listing ceremony in Mumbai as his son Anant Ambani spoke about the family’s journey, recalling the humble beginnings of his grandfather, Dhirubhai Ambani.
Wiping tears from his eyes, Mukesh watched as his children, Anant and Isha Ambani, addressed the gathering and reflected on the dreams, values and hard work that shaped the Reliance Group.
In his speech, Anant spoke about a modest home in Chorwad, Gujarat, where his grandfather’s dream began. He recalled how Dhirubhai had once worked at a petrol pump in Aden, with neither money nor connections. Yet, Dhirubhai went on to build a business empire, showing that an ordinary Indian could dream big and achieve extraordinary things.
Anant also spoke about his father’s vision of making India a global leader. He pointed to the world’s largest refinery in Jamnagar as an example of what the country could achieve through ambition and hard work.
He then traced the journey to Jio, which was built around the dream of bringing internet access to every Indian.
Calling the occasion a moment of gratitude, Anant said the listing was not just a milestone for the company but also a moment to celebrate the people who had helped make it possible.
“Today, Jio is shared with India,” he said, describing the stock exchange bell as a temple bell and comparing business to worship.
He said, “Jio ko pure desh ne duae di. Maa ne kaha, Jio mere laal. Dadi ne kaha, Jug jug Jio. Aur dosto ne kaha, Jio yaar.” ("Jio received blessings from across the country,” Anant said, adding that mothers called out, Jio mere laal, grandmothers blessed it with Jug jug Jio, and friends cheered, Jio yaar)
He also spoke about how digital access had helped creators reach millions and made specialist services more accessible.
Anant thanked Jio’s employees, engineers, technicians, service teams and retail partners, crediting their efforts for the company’s success. He also acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Digital India.
Isha Ambani also paid tribute to Dhirubhai, recalling his belief that ordinary Indians deserved a share in the country’s growth.
