A fruit vendor in Pune has garnered a big round of applause after returning Rs 1,500 to a customer who accidentally overpaid due to a digital payment error.
An X user, who goes by the name “Superbro,” shared the story of their experience with the fruit seller in a post that has gone viral on social media.
The mix-up occurred while the user was buying three bananas priced at Rs 15. Distracted in conversation with friends, they mistakenly entered Rs 1,515 while making the payment via UPI and completed the transaction without noticing the error.
Moments later, the shopkeeper began calling out to him and even ran after him amid heavy traffic noise to get his attention. It was then that the customer realised the mistake.
“The vendor immediately returned Rs 1,500 after scanning my QR code,” the user said, adding that the seller handled the situation calmly and simply advised him to double-check payments in the future.
The episode ended on a light note, with the customer, his friends, and the shopkeeper laughing over the blunder. “Some shopkeepers are genuinely kind-hearted. The world needs more people like this,” he added.
Along with the post, the user also shared screenshots of the payments.
Several users shared similar experiences - both positive and negative – in the comments section of the post.
One user recalled a payment error at a juice shop, claiming the vendor initially mentioned deducting charges but eventually refunded the full amount. Another said such mistakes are common at fuel stations due to decimal figures, adding that they prefer paying rounded amounts to avoid confusion.
However, not all stories had happy endings. A user shared that a shopkeeper once refused to return excess money after a similar mistake, forcing them to spend the amount on additional goods instead.
