  • The company will not use this customer data for AI training.

Generative AI is everywhere, but it is not cheap. Many companies are now asking if their big AI investments are actually saving them money. To answer this, Anthropic has launched a new set of tracking tools for its enterprise customers. This comes at a time when the company's AI coding tool, Claude Code, is seeing massive financial success and rapid adoption among developers.

Tracking the AI budget

A lot of businesses are spending heavily on AI models, but they are struggling to see a clear return on investment. According to a recent report by KPMG, only 12 per cent of companies consistently compare the value they get from AI to what they are actually spending on it. To solve this problem, Anthropic recently rolled out new tracking features for its Claude Enterprise users to give them a much clearer picture of their token spending.

The new tools include smart reports, pooled group budgets, and in-app surveys. Managers can now use internal analytics to see exactly what tasks their teams are using the AI for, how much it costs, and where their workflows might be failing.

To help balance these costs, companies can also set a shared monthly budget for a whole team instead of strict individual limits. Additionally, employee surveys will help companies gather direct feedback on how helpful the AI really is.

Importantly for privacy, Anthropic has confirmed that it will not use this corporate customer data to train its own AI models by default.

Massive growth and rising costs

These new management tools are launching at a time of huge growth for Anthropic. Financial data shared with investors this week shows that the company recorded an operating profit in the second quarter. Furthermore, it saw a 900 per cent net revenue retention, meaning spending from the same group of customers grew nine times from the third quarter of 2025 to the same period in 2026.

A new report from Jellyfish, based on the usage of over 2.76 lakh customers, highlights this boom. The report found that Claude Code and other tools built on Anthropic's models are responsible for nearly a third of all proposed code changes submitted for review.

However, spending on these tools has also grown 10 times since the beginning of the year. This AI cost now makes up about 2 per cent of total engineering costs.

Nicholas Arcolano, chief scientist at Jellyfish, told TechCrunch that this massive growth is something most chief financial officers did not plan for. He explained that businesses are realizing they cannot just spend money blindly; they now have to optimize their AI usage and prove that it makes business sense.

Why companies are not switching

Anthropic is currently leading among enterprise customers. While rivals like OpenAI have released new models like Astra, Anthropic's adoption numbers have not slowed down.

The new reporting tools from Anthropic act like a digital consultant, helping businesses get the most out of their current setup. By proving the return on investment directly to managers, Anthropic is making sure its big customers have no reason to look elsewhere.
