Nissan Tekton to debut tomorrow: Design, features, price and all you need to know
Nissan is set to unveil the Tekton SUV tomorrow, marking its return to India's mid-size SUV segment with bold styling, premium features, turbo-petrol engines and an expected starting price of around Rs 10 lakh.
by Saumya Shubham Jha · India TodayNissan Motor India is all set to make a comeback in India's highly competitive mid-size SUV segment with the debut of the Tekton on July 9, 2026. The upcoming SUV marks Nissan's return to the segment after the Kicks was discontinued in 2023 and forms a key part of the company's renewed product strategy for the Indian market.
After relying largely on the Magnite to drive volumes over the past few years, Nissan has begun expanding its portfolio. Following the recent introduction of the Gravite MPV, based on the Renault Triber, the brand is now preparing to take on one of India's biggest and most fiercely contested passenger vehicle segments.
The Tekton will compete against a host of established rivals, including the Renault Duster Tata Sierra, Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.
Distinct Nissan identity despite shared platform
Although the Tekton shares the Renault-Nissan Alliance's architecture with the Renault Duster,
Camouflaged test mules have already revealed several design elements. Up front, the SUV is expected to feature a wider Nissan-specific grille flanked by slim LED daytime running lamps connected by a full-width lighting signature. Compared to the Duster, the Tekton is also expected to feature more body-coloured surfacing, additional chrome accents and revised bumpers to lend it a more premium appearance.
At the rear, a connected LED tail-lamp setup is going to be one of the SUV's styling highlights. The profile retains the upright proportions and muscular stance typical of traditional SUVs, while higher variants are expected to ride on 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 225-section tyres.
With styling cues inspired by Nissan's larger global SUVs, particularly the Patrol, the Tekton is expected to offer a more mature and commanding road presence.
Feature-loaded cabin expected
Inside, the Tekton is expected to borrow much of its layout from the Renault Duster while incorporating Nissan-specific dashboard elements, upholstery themes and trim finishes.
Spy shots have already confirmed a flat-bottom steering wheel, steering-mounted controls and a fully digital instrument cluster. The SUV is also expected to feature a large touchscreen infotainment system with Google built-in functionality, similar to the global-spec Duster.
Expected feature highlights include:
- Panoramic sunroof
- Ventilated front seats
- Powered driver's seat
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Powered tailgate
- 360-degree camera
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Level 2 ADAS
- Auto headlights
- Rain-sensing wipers
With a long equipment list, Nissan is expected to position the Tekton as a premium family SUV aimed at buyers seeking both technology and comfort.
Turbo-petrol engines likely
Mechanically, the Tekton is expected to share its powertrain lineup with the India-spec Renault Duster.
Entry-level variants are likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing around 100bhp and 160Nm, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Higher variants are expected to receive a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine producing approximately 163bhp and 280Nm, offered with both a six-speed manual transmission and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic.
While Renault is expected to introduce a strong hybrid version of the Duster at a later stage, Nissan is unlikely to receive the electrified powertrain. The hybrid setup, which pairs a 1.8-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and a 1.4kWh battery pack, is expected to remain exclusive to Renault to create product differentiation within the Alliance.
Expected pricing and launch
Nissan will reveal the Tekton in full on July 9. The SUV is expected to be priced competitively against other mid-size SUVs in the segment, with an estimated starting price of around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). The Tekton will likely undercut the Duster, Renault Duster range starts at Rs 10.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 18.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Tekton is among Nissan India's most significant launches in recent years. Alongside the Magnite and the recently introduced Gravite, the new SUV is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening the company's presence in the mainstream passenger vehicle market.
With bold styling, a feature-rich cabin, multiple turbo-petrol engine options and strong segment positioning, the Tekton could become Nissan's biggest product offensive in India since the launch of the Magnite.
