A 33-year-old IT engineer allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Pune after facing harassment from her husband and in-laws, who allegedly demanded her entire salary and the transfer of her parental family's flat, police said on Wednesday. In a suicide note, she allegedly held her husband and four other in-laws responsible for her death.

The victim, identified as Trishna Rahul Sakpal, was found hanging at her residence in Keshav Nagar on September 29. Based on a complaint filed by her 74-year-old father, Balkrishna Nikam, Mundhwa police have registered a case against her husband, Rahul Sanjay Sakpal, and four other family members.

According to the complaint, Trishna married Rahul in 2018, and her family gave her 13 tolas of gold jewellery at the time of the wedding. She was employed at an IT company and was allegedly harassed over demands that she hand over her entire salary and transfer her parental family's flat to her mother-in-law's name.

Her father-in-law had allegedly also insisted that she buy a flat worth Rs 1 crore in her own name, police said. Following repeated alleged assaults and harassment, the couple began living separately in Keshav Nagar in 2021.

However, the harassment allegedly continued. Her husband allegedly assaulted her and forced her out of the house, following which she returned to her parental home. He subsequently filed a divorce petition in court, according to the complaint.

On September 29, around 11:30 am, Trishna allegedly died by suicide by hanging herself at her residence. Police subsequently found the suicide note and launched an investigation into the incident.
