Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday pitched India as a solutions hub and an emerging force in global innovation, saying the country is moving away from being a consumer of technology to a contributor of solutions.

Speaking at the inauguration of 'Bharat Innovates' in Nice, France, alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, Modi said innovation and inclusion were not at odds with each other.

"Innovation and inclusion are not enemies, but they complement each other. Innovation becomes great not due to its valuation but due to its human impact," he said.

He praised India's youth for working toward solutions that serve humanity rather than narrow commercial interests. "India's youth has a new mindset, one that thinks about the whole of humanity," he said.

Modi repeatedly asserted that India innovates for the world, with sustainability at its core. "India innovates with speed and scale. India innovates for a sustainable future. India innovates for the world," he said.

Tracing India's innovation heritage, Modi argued that the drive to contribute to human progress was not new. "For thousands of years, India has shaped the progress of humanity through its contributions to medicine, yoga, mathematics and science," he said. "Innovation is in the DNA of India."

The Prime Minister said his government had taken several steps over the past 12 years to build a stronger innovation ecosystem. He also cited the Atal Tinkering Labs programme in schools as an example of taking innovation to the grassroots.

"From easing the patent filing process to incubation networks, from the startup ecosystem to policy support systems, we have strengthened the ecosystem by taking innovation to the grassroots," he said.
