Hyderabad techie ends up with Rs 29,000 bill after date shows fake payment, flees from pub

A Hyderabad techie's date arranged through a dating app ended with a Rs 29,884 pub bill in Jubilee Hills, with him claiming he had only one beer and that the woman left after showing a suspected fake Rs 10,000 payment.

A date arranged through a dating app took an unexpected turn for a Hyderabad software engineer when what began as a date with a woman ended with a Rs 29,884 pub bill, a confrontation with staff and a police complaint.

Cheruku Hemanth, 27, a software engineer from Telangana’s Hyderabad, said he matched with a woman using the name “Divya” on the Quack Quack dating app on Sunday.

According to his complaint, the woman called him the following day and asked him to meet near Neeru’s Junction in Jubilee Hills, from where she suggested they head to 36 Chemistry Pub in the area.

What followed, Hemanth alleged, was a series of orders that pushed the bill to Rs 29,884. He claimed he had consumed only one beer during the outing.

Hemanth told the police that some of the beverages consumed by the woman appeared to be non-alcoholic, but were billed as premium alcoholic drinks. When he questioned the pub staff about the bill, the situation escalated.

According to his complaint, the situation turned tense after he refused to pay the bill, as staff members and bouncers surrounded him, leaving him fearing for his safety and prompting him to call the police.

The woman, Hemanth said, left the pub after claiming to have paid Rs 10,000. He suspected that the payment was made through a fake transaction.

In his complaint, Hemanth identified the woman as Divya alias Kavya and alleged that she and the pub management may have acted together to deceive customers and extract money from them.

He has sought legal action against the woman and the management of the pub.

Police are expected to examine the billing records, payment transaction details and CCTV footage from the pub as part of the investigation.
