Vignesh Shivan reacts to claims of being overshadowed by Nayanthara

Vignesh Shivan opened up about being recognised as Nayanthara's husband, dismissed claims of being 'overshadowed,' and shared a heartfelt anecdote reflecting love over ego in their relationship.

Director-lyricist Vignesh Shivan, who is awaiting the release of his upcoming film Love Insurance Kompany (LIK), recently opened up about his relationship with wife Nayanthara and how he feels about being recognised in public through her identity.

In a recent interaction with YouTuber Gopinath Chandran, Vignesh addressed claims that Nayanthara might be “overshadowing” him in his career. Dismissing the notion, he said such thoughts have no place in close relationships. “There is nothing of that sort. When we think like that, we can't move forward in life. In relationships like father-son, brothers, and husband and wife, there is no concept of ‘overshadowing’,” he explained.

The Naanum Rowdy Dhaan director then shared a light-hearted incident that left a lasting impression on him. Recalling a day when he stopped for juice at a roadside stall without carrying any digital payment options, Vignesh said he found himself in a tricky situation. However, the shopkeeper recognised him and warmly referred to him by Nayanthara’s name, allowing him to leave without paying. “I called up Nayan and told her that she saved me that day,” he said with a smile.

He further reflected on how such moments bring him joy rather than discomfort. “When people refer to me as Uyir and Ulag’s father, it feels beautiful. It’s the same happiness when I’m recognised by my wife’s name. There is no jealousy or ego. It comes purely from love,” he added.

Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara began dating after working together on Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in 2015. The couple got engaged in 2021 and got married in 2022. They later welcomed twin boys through surrogacy.

On the work front, Vignesh is gearing up for the release of Love Insurance Kompany, a sci-fi romantic entertainer starring Pradeep Ranganathan, Krithi Shetty and SJ Suryah in lead roles. The film also marks his reunion with composer Anirudh Ravichander.
