Burglars flee with gold, cash worth over ₹20 lakh from house in Baleshwar

Baleshwar: Gold and silver ornaments of around 20 lakh and 80 thousand in cash were stolen after burglars broke into a locked house at Baringia village under Kurunta Panchayat under Khaira police limits in Odisha’s Baleshwar district on Wednesday night.

As per complaint, the house is of Ananta Kumar Mishra, who, along with his wife was asleep in an adjacent mud house at the time of incident while the concrete house was locked.

The couple have two sons who are staying outside the village.

Ananta Mishra and his family woke up at 3 AM following discovery of forced open grill gate of the concrete house.

After opening the gate, the family found all gold and silver ornaments and cash missing.

A complaint has been lodged with the police. The incident has raised security concerns among the villagers.

Meanwhile, at about 2 KM from the incident site, a group of youths who returned from Bhubaneswar allegedly saw four suspicious men at a marketplace on Wednesday night.

When local residents questioned the youths, they left behind two motorbikes and fled from the site.

Police have recovered bags left by the thieves which included a crowbar, a cutter machine, drill machine discs and a sharp weapon.

Investigation is underway to determine if these are related to the incident of burglary.
