Washington: US President Donald Trump said he is in no rush to resume trade negotiations with Canada, leaving the timing of a possible restart uncertain amid ongoing tariff tensions between the two countries.
Trump made the remarks when reporters asked whether Washington would restart trade talks with Ottawa before the US midterm elections.
He did not provide any timeline for resuming negotiations.
Trump accused Canada of treating the United States unfairly and alleged that Ottawa had imposed tariffs that Washington was not aware of.

He also said any future agreement would require Canada to be “honest” with the US.
The comments come after trade negotiations between the two countries stalled in August.
Since then, both sides have imposed or maintained tariffs and other trade restrictions, adding pressure to their economic relationship.
US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer had also said last month that the Trump administration saw no urgency in reaching a new agreement with Canada, while noting that significant trade in areas such as oil, gas and potash continues between the two countries.
