Samba Dasami celebrated across Odisha: Devotees perform Surya puja at Chandrabhaga beach

Bhubaneswar: Samba Dasami is being celebrated in every household of Odisha today that is December 30, 2025. On the occasion of Samba Dasami, Surya puja is performed in the early morning before sunrise. Devotees have thronged to Konark sun temple and Chandrabhaga beach to witness the sunrise over the sea and offer prayers to the Sun God.

On the occasion of Samba Dasami, the Surya Rath Yatra and Soura Mahayagna are being performed in Konark. The Surya Ratha Yatra will continue for 27 days in Chandrabhaga, drawing tourists from far and wide. Devotees  worship the Sun God by offering traditional delicacies like Kakara and Poda Pitha. It is believed that by worshiping and offering Arghya to the Sun on this day will cure all diseases.

As per historical scriptures, the son of lord Krisna, Samaba, got rid of leprosy, which was caused by his father’s curse by worshiping the sun god in the Chandrabhaga beach. The women of the house wake up early in the morning and perform the surya puja before sunrise, wishing for a disease-free lives for their family members.

Samba Dashami is a unique ritual observed on the 10th day during the Shukla Paksha or waxing phase of moon in Paush month (December – January).
