Rs 17 lakh fraud in Kandhamal, postmaster arrested

Kandhamal: A postmaster has been arrested for reportedly withdrawing about 17 lakhs intended for deposits in customers’ accounts at Gardingia Sub Post Office, under Tikabali Police Station limits in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
The accused has been identified as Girish Nayak from Dakpala village under Phulbani police station limits.
As per reports, customers apparently used to hand over money to the postmaster to deposit in their respective account.
The accused allegedly collected the funds under the pretext of processing deposits through a mobile-based application.
Howeve, he did not deposit the money into any account.

Following the issue getting exposed by many customers facing the same problem, complaints were filed against the postmaster.
Based on the complaints, Birakishore Nayak, Inspector of G. Udayagiri Postal Subdivision, filed a complaint with Tikabali Police.
Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested the accused from G. Udayagiri.
Further investigation is underway.
