NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), the clean energy arm of NLC India Limited, has teamed up with the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) for a huge 1,000 megawatt (MW) green energy project in Odisha. According to the joint venture agreement, NIRL will control 51% of the new joint venture company, giving it a majority stake, while OREDA will hold the other 49%.
This ambitious 1,000 MW project isn’t just about one type of renewable energy—it will bring a mix of new clean technologies to Odisha. The plan includes 250 MW of wind power and 225 MW of floating solar installations, plus other targeted green projects. Leaders from both sides came together on Tuesday at Kharavela Bhavan in Bhubaneswar for the official signing ceremony.

The joint venture’s operations will be overseen by a five-member board. NIRL’s bigger stake means it gets to nominate three directors; OREDA will choose the other two. The signing event drew top officials, among them NIRL CEO Devendra Pratap Singh and NLC India Director (Finance) Prasanna Kumar Acharya.
State leaders share a strong sense of optimism around the deal’s impact. At the event, Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister, KV Singh Deo, called the partnership a milestone that will boost sustainable industrial growth and establish Odisha as a leader in green innovation. Additional Chief Secretary of Energy, Vishal Kumar Dev, said this venture will measurably enhance Odisha’s ability to take on major eco-friendly projects, cut the state’s carbon footprint, attract new green investment, and support India’s national climate targets.
