New Delhi: The Government of India will lift all restrictions on the sale of petrol and diesel at retail outlets from July 1, 2026, restoring normal fuel access for all consumers.
The move rolls back temporary curbs imposed earlier this month amid global supply disruptions linked to the West Asia conflict. The restrictions had barred institutional, industrial and commercial buyers from purchasing fuel at retail pumps and capped diesel sales at 200 litres per customer per day to prevent local shortages.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Govt of India said the order was issued to maintain equitable availability and prevent diversion of retail fuel meant for ordinary consumers. During the curbs, bulk buyers were directed to source fuel only through designated consumer pumps.

Officials clarified there was no shortage of petrol or diesel in the country and the measure was temporary. From July 1, all categories of buyers can again purchase petrol and diesel from retail stations without quantity limits.
The decision comes as global oil supply pressures ease following a renewed ceasefire in West Asia. The government had earlier stated it applied only limited curbs on commercial and bulk LPG to protect household supply.
