Bengaluru: Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has come up with revised prices of Nandini dairy products from today onwards due to which milk and curd consumers have to spend more money for the daily essentials.

As per reports, milk prices have increased by Rs 8 to Rs 12 per litre, depending on fat content, curd has become costlier by Rs 14 per kg.

The change is anticipated to have an impact on the average budget of households throughout the state, especially among consumers who regularly consume dairy products.

As per the new rate card, toned milk is priced at Rs 54 per litre as against Rs 46 earlier and homogenised toned milk Rs 56 as against Rs 47.

Now both special toned milk and Shubham milk will cost Rs 64 per litre, against Rs 52 earlier. Homogenised cow milk has also become dearer, with the price increased from Rs 50 to Rs 58 per litre.

The other important revision is in the price of the curd. Price of 500 grams was Rs 28 earlier will now be Rs 34.

Also, the cost of a one-kg pouch has risen from Rs 54 to Rs 68. KMF authorities said that, depending on the quantity of fat, ghee, butter and buttermilk prices could go up.

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar justified the hike by stating that it was to help dairy farmers facing drought and increasing cattle feed prices. Out of the Rs 8 base hike, Rs 7 will be provided to farmers directly and Re 1 will be to the milk unions to cover administration and other costs.

However, this decision has increased the alarms of the consumers and hotel operators regarding the increase in the prices of basic food.
