Tech access, reforms key for MSMEs

by · Bangalore Mirror

The Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA) is advocating for improved access to affordable, modern technology for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). In a recent appeal to Union MSME Minister Shobha Karandlaje, KASSIA President MG Rajagopal emphasised the need for enhanced industry-academia collaboration in technology transfer and skill development, proposing public-private partnerships to facilitate technology exchange platforms.

KASSIA requested increased funding for cluster development programs, greater outreach initiatives, and a comprehensive MSME survey to assess the sector’s needs. “Key proposals include solar power subsidies, automation support, an extended tax contribution period, and affordable industrial land for MSMEs.

KASSIA further pressed for labour and social welfare reforms, including a unified wage policy, merging Employees’ State Insurance and Provident Fund departments, and simplifying compliance. On banking, KASSIA called for lower interest rates, expanded credit guarantees. The association also emphasised the need for system upgrades and training for better use of government portals,” Rajagopal said.
