Bristol students honour Armistice Day with poppies, wreaths, and uniforms

by · BristolLive

Pupils across Bristol have marked remembrance with ceremonies, artwork at unique services.

Holymead Primary School based in Brislington have been making poppies to commemorate Armistice Day. Every child from reception to year six created a poppy which then featured either on the school displays or on a wreath on every classroom door.

In Weston-Super-Mare, Hans Price Academy continued its tradition of inviting students who are part of youth organisations, including the Cadets, Guides, Scouts, and Boys’ Brigade, to wear their association uniforms as a sign of respect and solidarity.

Adrian Esch, Principal of Hans Price Academy, said: “It is incredibly moving to see our young people participate in this tradition and pay their respects to those who have served.

“At HPA, we emphasise the importance of remembrance, understanding the impact of past and present sacrifices, and inspiring future generations to appreciate peace and community.”

Other school’s sharing photographs of a special service within their grounds were Collegiate Prep School and Sir Bernard Lovell Academy.

Bristol Free School held a Remembrance Service attended by the whole school on Monday 11 November. The Ode of Remembrance was read by Lily in Year 13 and the Last Post played by Thomas in Year 9.
