by Nabanita Singha Roy · RushLanePriced from R224,900 (Rs 12.86 Lakh), the updated Punch brings six airbags and wireless smartphone connectivity as standard, with a new turbo-petrol option topping the three-variant range.
Tata Motors has launched the updated Punch in South Africa in partnership with Motus Holdings. The refreshed SUV brings revised styling, more standard equipment and a turbocharged petrol engine, while retaining an advertised starting price of R224,900.
The new lineup comprises three variants – Pure+, Adventure and Accomplished+ S. This is in addition to the five-derivative structure for the older model, with the latest range offering two petrol engines but no automatic transmission option. Old Punch will continue to be on sale along with the new one in South Africa.
New Tata Punch South Africa Prices
The entry-level Punch Pure+ is priced at R224,900, followed by Adventure at R244,900. Both use the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a five-speed manual gearbox. The range-topping Accomplished+ S introduces the turbo-petrol engine and six-speed manual, priced at R269,900. Price of the old Punch also starts at R224,900, but is marked as reduced through Deal Assist.
The new Punch sits between Tiago and Osprey, priced from R224,900 (Rs 12.86 lakh). Adventure costs R244,900 (Rs 14.01 lakh), while the turbocharged Accomplished+ S is priced at R269,900 (Rs 15.44 lakh).
Alongside the updated Punch, Tata’s South African portfolio includes Tiago, Osprey (Nexon), Curvv and Harrier. Tiago starts at R189,900 (approximately Rs 10.86 lakh), while the Nexon-based Osprey is priced from R249,900 (Rs 14.29 lakh). Curvv starts at R349,900 (Rs 20.01 lakh), with Harrier topping the range at R549,900 (Rs 31.45 lakh).
Turbo-Petrol Joins The Range
The biggest mechanical addition is the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. Offered on Accomplished+ S, it produces 88 kW and 170 Nm, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. The naturally aspirated 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine continues with 65 kW and 115 Nm. These are the same options on sale in India as well.
While the older South African range offered both five-speed manual and AMT options, the new lineup is manual-only. Buyers therefore gain a turbo option but lose the automatic choice for now. Indian Punch turbo variant also does not get automatic.
Revised Styling, Familiar Footprint
The updated Punch adopts a sharper front design, with slim upper lighting elements, vertically positioned main lamps and a revised bumper. Higher variants also receive the connected rear lighting treatment. Length increases by 49 mm to 3,876 mm, while width, height and wheelbase remain unchanged at 1,742 mm, 1,615 mm and 2,445 mm, respectively.
Unladen ground clearance is at 193 mm and a 37-litre fuel tank, which is up from 35 litres in old Punch. Six colours are offered – First Light, Cliffside, Aloe Crimson, Cape Silverleaf, Kalahari Sunset and Highveld Horizon, with contrasting-roof combinations shown for the top variant.
More Equipment From The Base Variant
The new Punch makes a substantial step forward in standard equipment. Six airbags are offered across the range, compared with the dual airbags listed in the older brochure. Tata also cites a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating for the updated model.
The entry-level Pure+ features LED headlamps, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring and ISOFIX child-seat mounts. Convenience equipment includes an eight-inch Harman touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a reverse camera and cruise control.
Rear AC vents, a centre console with armrest, steering-mounted controls, all power windows and a rear defogger are also listed. This brings several features previously associated with higher variants to the new entry trim.
Adventure Gets 360-Degree Camera
The Adventure variant adds a 360-degree surround-view camera and Blind View Monitor, alongside automatic climate control, push-button start and electrically folding mirrors. Other additions include automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, a rear wiper and washer, an air purifier and a cooled glovebox. It rides on 15-inch Hyperstyle wheels.
The top-spec Accomplished+ S brings a 10.25-inch touchscreen, seven-inch digital instrument cluster, 16-inch alloy wheels, LED DRLs and connected LED tail lamps. Its equipment list also includes hill-descent control, ambient lighting, extended thigh-support seats, adjustable rear headrests and a voice-assisted electric sunroof.
