TOORO: Musuuga gifted Shs180 million land cruiser

Hoima, Uganda | URN | Tooro subjects and well-wishers have raised 180 million shillings to buy a brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado for Prince Charles Kamurasi, head of the Babiito royal clan, in recognition of his service to the kingdom.

The vehicle was handed over to Kamurasi on Saturday afternoon at Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal by Monsignor Isaiah Mayombo, chairperson of the organising committee for the coronation of the new king-designate.

Mayombo said the vehicle was a token of appreciation for Kamurasi’s service, guidance and commitment to the kingdom.

He described Kamurasi as a leader who had demonstrated truthfulness, consistency, courage, wisdom and trustworthiness, and whose leadership should serve as an example to others serving Tooro.

Fr Charles Oyo, spokesperson of the Babiito royal clan, said the initiative was intended to honour Kamurasi for his contribution to Tooro and the role he has played during what he described as a difficult period for the kingdom.

Oyo said Kamurasi had become a symbol of Tooro through what he described as his courage and determination to defend the interests and dignity of the kingdom.

Michael Mugisa, one of the contributors to the fundraising campaign, said the initiative was driven by a desire to appreciate Kamurasi’s long service to Tooro.

He said contributions from different people raised 180 million shillings to purchase the vehicle and ease Kamurasi’s movements.

Mugisa clarified that the vehicle is a personal gift to Kamurasi and does not belong to the office of the Musuuga.

He said the fundraising campaign is continuing, with organisers planning to establish a Musuuga Foundation to support activities associated with the office and contribute to its operational needs.

Kamurasi thanked the people of Tooro for the gesture, saying the gift demonstrated their love and patriotism towards the kingdom.

He also thanked them for remaining united following the death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.

Kamurasi said that although Tooro remains in mourning, the kingdom must continue and its interests should be placed above individual differences.

He called on Tooro subjects to put aside their differences and work together as the kingdom begins what he described as a new chapter.
