Wetherspoon fans left puzzled after worker shares how breakfast item is cooked
by Sam Dimmer, Talya Honebeek · NottinghamshireLiveWetherspoon, known for its budget-friendly food and drinks, offers a wide range of dishes from steak to ramen that rivals Wagamama. The breakfast menu is another highlight, featuring everything from a classic full English to American-style pancakes and vegan options, all served on their famous blue and white plates.
Regulars at the pub chain may know that many items are cooked in the microwave, fryer or grill, rather than made from scratch. However, fans were left puzzled after discovering how one breakfast staple is prepared. A video shared by TikTok user @dobbysc00chie in 2022 revealed the secret behind Wetherspoon's perfectly round poached eggs. The TikToker, who was working at Wetherspoon at the time, disclosed that the eggs are pre-poached and not cooked immediately before serving.
They wrote: "Explaining to a customer that they can't have poached eggs as they're pre-poached and are out of stock. I actually never told customers they were pre-poached, I just flat out said no, or offered fried eggs instead," reports the Express.
This revelation left viewers perplexed, with one commenting: ""Pre poached?? I have so many questions not sure if I actually want answers though."
Another asked: "HOW DO YOU PREPOACH AN EGG?!" While a third wrote: "How do u get pre-poached eggs?"
A fourth remarked in disbelief: "This explains a lot," and shared their confusion, adding: "I was SO confused when I was told they had no poached eggs and would I like fried?" Meanwhile, someone else disclosed their trick: "I just say the poacher is broken and they just agree."
A former Wetherspoon employee chimed in, calling it "the highlight of working a spoons breakfast shift." Another commenter suggested, "Tbf I think a lot more places do this than ppl realise."
