Revised opening date for 'new' M&S West Bridgford as more details announced
by Joseph Connolly · NottinghamshireLiveA revised reopening date has been set for West Bridgford's Marks & Spencer after its ongoing refurbishment. The store, on Albert Road, closed on Saturday, October 19 for a planned five-week overhaul.
It was initially touted to open again on Wednesday, November 27. Now, though, an extra day is planned to make sure it's up to scratch, and it will re-open on Thursday, November 28.
New details have also been revealed about what the interior of the store will look like. Initial reports only told of the external details of the revamp, with an extension to incorporate a trolley enclosure and a new customer entrance, as well as new illuminating signage to mark the change of the store's name from M&S Foodhall to M&S Food.
But what the company calls a "complete transformation" will incorporate a fresh, market-style foodhall including a bigger, brand-new bakery, which will be located at the front of the store, and an improved produce section. The store is currently in the process of hiring a baker for the new bakery, who is "an early riser and can work more than 20 hours per week."
There'll also be a new on-the-go coffee machine, a bigger frozen offering, new Click & Collect facilities, new flooring and lighting including M&S’ signature neon lighting indoors. And there'll also be an improved till area, with more tills available than ever before in a mix of manned and self-service.
The renewals are part of a £32m investment by M&S in the Midlands. M&S West Bridgford opened in January 2006 and is one of 13 M&S stores across Nottijnghamshire.
West Bridgford staff have been redeployed to other shops across the country will the refurb takes place. Store manager Martin Kirkpatrick said: “We can’t wait for customers to see the new store later this month and to offer the best possible shopping experience.
"Thank you to everyone for their patience while work is underway but I promise it will definitely be worth the wait - and just in time for the festive season. In the meantime, we will keep the community updated on our store Facebook page. The countdown is well and truly on and the team and I could not be more excited."
