Luxury hotel suddenly closes with 'immediate effect' as all staff made redundant
by Ben Carr · NottinghamshireLiveEvery employee at a luxury hotel on the Nottinghamshire border that shut down suddenly has lost their job, according to the liquidators. Stapleford Park Hotel, located near Melton, ceased operations with immediate effect earlier this month due to "adverse trading conditions".
Leonard Curtis, the appointed liquidators of Stapleford Park Limited, the company that operated the hotel but did not own it, confirmed that all 92 staff members had been made redundant. Alex Cadwallader, one of the joint liquidators, stated: "Our priority was to ensure the most orderly wind-down of trading possible. Significant efforts were made to communicate with and re-locate the guests that were staying at the hotel, which was at approximately 50 per cent occupancy."
The liquidators added: "Leonard Curtis attended the site and worked closely with front of house staff to make this possible, and the wider group also met some essential costs to limit the impact on guests and future bookings. However we fully appreciate that some guests will have been adversely impacted."
The Grade I listed mansion, which had 48 guest rooms and was surrounded by 500 acres of land, was unable to generate enough revenue to achieve profitability and continue operating.
The statement highlighted that the closures occurred despite "multiple hotel management partnerships and significant investment from shareholders". Affected staff are being directed to reach out to the Redundancy Payments Service to handle eligible claims after the onset of liquidation, reports Leicestershire Live.
