“It’s always same-same, but different,” R13’s Chris Leba said of resort, which was made up of two distinct vibes that harkened the brand’s harder punk origins. As with every collection, Leba’s twists on everyday wardrobing came to life with special, reworked details.
The first half of his assortment was inspired by Françoise Hardy, which came through an exciting play on nautical style, but twisted in the R13 way. For instance, mariner striped knits, woven shirts and slashed T-shirts with slick high-waisted skinny pants or backward shirting paired with cool cargo-meets-bloomer shorts. The latter drop came full circle to R13’s origins through new takes on his signature fleece and flannel shirts, fabulous denim and leather layers, and edgy floral styles. But the ideas felt ultra-fresh mixed with brightly colored tartan kilts and drop-crotch pants; leather moto pants and jackets — some vintage, others new — and new takes on athleisure a la bold-shouldered zip-up jackets.
